Janis serves as the Plastic Pollution Program Lead for the San Diego Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. In this role, she advances policy initiatives aimed at reducing single-use plastics through close collaboration with local leaders, partner organizations and grassroots community advocates. Under her leadership, the Plastic Pollution Program and its dedicated volunteers, have helped secure the adoption of single-use plastic reduction ordinances in ten cities across San Diego County.
As an educator, artist and environmental activist, Selby Jones is committed to increasing public understanding of the impacts of plastic pollution. She organizes film screenings, delivers classroom presentations, and engages with the community at public events and festivals. Her work demonstrates how local collective action can drive meaningful progress toward a more sustainable and equitable future.
Kristin is a resident of Del Mar and a Family Physician at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group (SRSMG) where she has practiced for the past 24 years. She trained with ecoAmerica as a climate health ambassador and serves on the Public Health Advisory Council with San Diego's Climate Action Campaign. Kristin co-founded a Climate and Planetary Health Committee at SRSMG to increase awareness and engagement among physicians, staff and patients. She has an active interest in educating her patients and the community about the intersection between the climate, the environment and health.
Susan serves as the Southern California Director for Beyond Plastics. Drawing on rigorous research, policy analysis, and public education, her work focuses on uncovering how the petrochemical industry influences public perception, why most plastics are never truly recycled, how proposed "solutions" often exacerbate the crisis, and how weak enforcement continues to undermine California's environmental laws.
Before joining Beyond Plastics, Susan held a leadership role in the high-tech sector of Oracle. She now applies her expertise to advocate vigorously for meaningful action to end plastic pollution.
